The red bridge stood out against the greenery. The sun was directly overhead. There was bright sunshine as well as deep shadows. That made the conditions slightly difficult. I had to make sure that I realistically captured the light and colour .
Location
I was recently in Infosys Campus, Pune and the wooden bridge caught my eye. You could view the image on my Flickr photostream.
Technical Data
I was carrying my Canon 50mm, f/1.8 lens. The camera is Canon EOS 550D. I used an aperture of f/10 to get a good depth of field. Shutter speed was 1/40 sec.
The sun was setting. But the light was still bright and I had to use a high shutter speed. At the same time, I had to light the shrub which filled half of the frame. Luckily, my Canon Speedlite 430 EX II flash has capability for high-speed sync which enables me to use the Speedlite at high shutter speeds. You can see the result in the photo below.
Location
Location is Vasai in Maharashtra. It was a warm October evening and the sky had a tinge of red. The photo was in Flickr Explore at #19 on 24 October 2014.
Camera Info
My camera Canon EOS 550D has been used. Shutter speed was 1/500 sec at a focal length of 55mm. ISO setting was 400. Aperture was f/5.6. The flash was Canon Speedlite 430 EX II in manual mode. High-speed sync was applied.
I was in Kerala last month and visited Soochippara Falls. It is 23.5 km from Kalpetta, a 46 min drive . The road passes through beautifully manicured tea gardens. The tea gardens line both sides of the road amid rolling hills. Nearest railway station and airport is Kozhikode.
Entry to the falls is not allowed during monsoon season. There is an entry fee of Rs. 30 per person. Plastic items are not allowed inside. Must be prepared for leech bites. One has to trek about 2 km through the forest. The path has ups and downs. There are steep steps to climb too. The walk can be tiring. Incidentally, I did not see any medical facility in the area.
The waterfall sends down a heavy column of water. It is dangerous to stand under the falls because the flow of water is very powerful. However, the flow of water is bound to reduce during summer months,
It may take a couple of hours to reach the falls and return to the entry point. So visitors should plan to get to Soochippara before 3 pm as it gets dark very quickly there.
You can see my video on Soochippara Falls on YouTube.
Camera Info
I was carrying my Canon PowerShot S110 camera. I used it in RAW mode. Aperture was f/4.5 at 1/20 sec. ISO speed was 125. Lens was 5-26mm f/2.2-8.
The road passed through beautifully manicured tea plantations. As usual, the plantations were on hill slopes and seemed to stretch endlessly. Silver oak trees could be seen among the tea shrubs. The sky was partly cloudy.
Location
This is somewhere between Sulthan Bathery and Kalpetta in Wayanad, Kerala. The road was good and there was not much traffic. So I could get down from the car and take the shot.
Technical Info
I was carrying my Canon PowerShot S110. I used it in RAW format. Aperture was f/6.3. Shutter speed was 1/30 sec, hand held. No flash was used.
It was a cloudy evening last month. There was a hint of rain in the air. Clouds partially covered the mountains. Good rains in the past few weeks had made the land nice and green.
