Radiance

Rays of the sun are what makes the image radiant. Shafts of  light were coming out through the clouds that were low in the sky. Colours of the sky were subtle and nice.

I was on the road leading to Naigaon Koliwada when I captured the photo. There are overhead power transmissio lines on both sides of the road. The road passes through open fields and the sun appeared to set at the western end.

Camera Info

I composed the photo in such a way that the horizon was low on the frame. Aperture was set to f/11 to get a good depth of field. Exposure program was in Aperture Priority.

Low Tide

The challenge here for me was to get the composition right so that I could depict vastness of the beach. I positioned the boat towards the bottom left corner. From there, the eye is drawn by the water line towards the far distance. It also helped that there were no people in the frame.

Location

The location is Kalamb beach near Nallasopara in Maharashtra. The beach extends for a few kilometres. At low tide, it is quite wide. There are not many tourists at the beach so usually it is not crowded.

Camera Info

It was sunny and bright when I took the shot. So I could afford to use a shutter speed of 1/800 sec. Focal length was 33 mm and aperture was set to f/6.3.

Translucence

It was a sunny evening at the beach. Although it was close to 5 pm, the sun was still shining brightly. The challenge here was to get the exposure right since  I was directing the camera at the sun.

Location

Location is Kalamb beach near Vasai in Maharashtra. Kalamb is also not far from Nallasopara station on Western Railway. It is a beautiful beach. The sand here has a grey colour, may be because of the minerals in it. The beach is very wide at low tide, but the water comes in a quite a bit when the tide is high.

Technical Data

I used a high shutter speed of 1/4000 sec. to get the exposure right. The active focal point was on the boat so that it retained details and was not just a silhouette. I used evaluative metering in RAW format. Flash was not fired.

Road to Kalamb Gaon

This is a recent photo taken near Vasai. The road was straight and empty. The sun was going down. The sky was clear but for clouds low on the horizon. It was a good time to shoot the photo.

Location

The road connects Vasai and Nallasopara. Near Nallasopara is Kalamb Gaon where there is a beautiful beach.

Camera Info

I shot the image with my Canon PowerShot S110 camera. It is a small camera and can be easily carried in the pocket. It has many advanced features and one among them is the ability to shoot in RAW format. I chose RAW format for this picture. This resulted in better highlights in the clouds and nicer colours. I have shown the JPEG version below and you can see the differences.

Airport Tower Mumbai

The new ATC tower in Mumbai was commissioned last month. At 83.8 metres, it is as tall as a 30-storey building. It is now the tallest airport tower in India and gives a 360 degree view with five-mile visibility. The new ATC has the capacity to handle 46 flight operations per hour.

The ATC tower is in front of the domestic terminal at Santa Cruz. It stands tall above the terminal building. The evening sun lit up the building very well. When I took the shot, I was mid way between Jet Airways and Indian Airlines arrival halls.

Camera Data

I made use of my new Canon PowerShot S 110 camera for capturing the image. The aperture was f/3.2 and I was able to use a fast shutter speed of 1/1000 sec. Focal length was 8.0 mm and ISO speed 100.
